EFZ DIRECTS CHURCHES TO SHELTER FLOOD VICTIMS

The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has called on churches, particularly its member churches, to open their doors and provide temporal shelter to people displaced by flash floods across the country.

Vice President Mutale Nalumango recently announced that 37 districts are at risk of flooding, with Lundazi among the worst affected areas, where water supply has been cut, about 250 houses have collapsed, and an additional 50 houses have been submerged.

EFZ Executive Director, Allan Kasung’ami, says the move by churches to offer shelter will help ensure that affected families are cared for as an immediate and temporary measure, especially those whose homes have been damaged or destroyed.

“EFZ further calls on well-wishers in affected communities to complement government efforts by urgently donating food, chlorine, clean water, school supplies, and other essential items,” Rev. Kasung’ami said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka.

He also called on the nation to unite in prayer during this period, asking for protection against loss of life and the outbreak of waterborne diseases that may arise as a result of the floods.
